DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- A former Desoto County Sheriff's deputy was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, after lying to authorities about the abuse of a Desoto County inmate.

Former detention deputy Vincent Carlucci Jr. admitted to lying to authorities about the abuse of 43-year-old Jody Holland.

Holland said deputies beat him while he was at the Desoto County jail in May of last year. Carlucci was not accused in the beating, but authorities say he knew about it and never reported it.

Carlucci will also have to pay a $1,000 fine and must self-surrender by May 1st.

Holland claimed deputies beat him three times. His lawyer believes deputies beat his client because he used to live with a woman in Arcadia, who works for the sheriff. She claimed Holland beat her and violated a restraining order. The attorney believes deputies beat Holland as payback.

Holland's charges were dropped and he is now suing the Sheriff's Office for $3.5 million.
