FORT MYERS, FL.--A morbid mystery after a Fort Myers woman uncovered a box of human ashes near her driveway.

She tells WINK News she's stunned and heartbroken by the discovery.

"It was early in the morning, the sun was just coming up," said Alyce Whitehead.

That early morning walk down the driveway brought out all kinds of emotions for Whitehead.

"I saw this white bag about where that tree is in the ditch," she said.

Near the bag was a black box with an open bag of human ashes inside.

The label says the ashes are of Frederick Martin Riley.
He died in February of last year and was cremated at a chattanooga, Tennessee funeral home.

"he was somebody's dad, grandpa or brother," said Whitehead.

Which is why Alyce and her fiance John are on a new mission solve the mystery of how those ashes ended up here.
Searching the internet they traced Riley's name back to Tennessee and Indiana.

"I have lost a family member recently and I would not want to see this happen to her ashes, you know," said John.

And when we walked back down to the spot where the ashes were found Alyce spotted a card that belonged with the ashes.
