LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The former State Attorney's investigator accused in a deadly hit and run accident on Christmas morning is out of jail.

Charles Lawson was in court Friday for his first appearance on charges of hit and run, meaning failure to stop at a crash that ended in death.

Lawson has no prior convictions.

He does not currently have a valid license and will not be able to drive without one.

According to the judge, the charge he appeared in court for today carries a 30-year prison term.

Lawson's bond was set at $30,000. He bonded out Friday morning.

He is not to consume alcohol, and will be subject to random screenings at the State's request.

Lawson's next court date is April 14th.
