ST. JAMES CITY, Fla.- A man has been arrested after holding another man at gunpoint at a home on York Rd. this morning.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect as 51-year-old Duane Matthew Wyatt.
Deputies said they were first called to the scene around 1:15 a.m. regarding a disturbance. They met with a 50-year-old male victim of an aggravated assault and false imprisonment. An attempt was made to have Wyatt step outside to discuss the matter, but he refused, closed and locked his door.
A detective interviewed the victim who described the events of the night. He said that he met with Wyatt at Froggy's Bar and had a few drinks. Wyatt invited the man back to his residence to smoke marijuana. The subject drove Wyatt to his home on York Road. As time passed, Wyatt made an unwanted advance on the victim who attempted to leave right away, however, Wyatt had taken his keys and refused to give them back. He said that Wyatt then pointed a handgun in the face of the victim and insisted he stay and "party." Eventually, Wyatt placed the gun on a counter and the man was able to grab it and flee the home as Wyatt threatened to kill him.
Members of the Sheriff's Office Special Operations Squad and Hostage Negotiation Team responded in efforts to bring about a safe resolution. Wyatt was known to have other weapons inside his home. He walked out of his residence and surrendered to deputies at 9:19 a.m., without further incident.
Wyatt is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and battery. He has been transported to the Lee County Jail.
