PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County detectives are attempting to identify a woman who used a credit card that was taken from a woman's purse to purchase a television in January.

On Monday January 27, a Destin woman reported that she had accidentally left her purse in the ladies room at the Waffle House, located at 9092 Mac Drive in Punta Gorda. She said when she realized she had left the purse, she went back and found her purse, minus her cell phone and credit cards, in the trash. The theft occurred sometime between about 9:30 and 10:00 a.m.

After filing the report, the victim contacted her credit card companies to cancel her cards and learned that someone had used one of her cards at the Walmart, located at 5001 Taylor Road in Punta Gorda, that same date at about 11:00 a.m.

Detectives assigned to the case obtained a photograph of the female suspect from Walmart surveillance video as she was leaving the store with the Samsung television she had purchased with the stolen credit card. The woman was described as being a heavy-set white female with brown hair and wearing a brown T-shirt top with dark pants.

Anyone with information on the identity of the woman is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Office as (941) 639-2101 (ask for District 3 detectives), or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
