CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police shot and killed a dog on Tuesday, just before 4:00 p.m., that was reportedly charging at them.

The victim called police after saying a large, white, pit bull aggressively charged at him twice near 700 SW 6th Ave. The victim refused treatment.

The police officer on the scene spotted the dog walking through a vacant lot, but said the dog soon returned to where he was standing. The dog growled and allegedly charged at officer, prompting him to fire three shots at the dog, hitting him once in the paw.

Two other officer arrived on the scene, each discharging his firearm at the dog when the dog charged at them.

Animal Services arrived on the scene and took custody of the deceased dog. They will conduct a follow-up investigation with the dog's owner.
