TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Developers and silent partners would be precluded from nursing home litigation under a bill that moved through its first Florida House committee.
The Civil Justice Subcommittee approved the bill (HB 569) by a vote of 10-3 during a hearing Wednesday.
Proponents say the measure will allow more investment money for nursing homes to spend on growing.
Opponents claim that the parties precluded under the bill are often active managers and are just as culpable for mistreatment of patients as the ground floor staff that would bear the brunt of litigation.
