SANIBEL, Fla.- A husband and wife are safe after jumping from a burning yacht this morning, two miles south of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, the couple was rescued by a Good Samaritan who had been fishing in the area. FWC picked the victims up from there.

The Cape Coral Fire Department was the first fire department to arrive on the scene, because hte agency was conducting training excercises nearby, so they took the victims from FWC and transported them to shore.

Neither was seriously injured. No one else had been on board the boat.

Other fire departments arrived on the scene and sprayed the burning yacht with an animal-safe foam. A total of 10 agencies responded to the fire.

The boat began to sink around 12:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, according to Sanibel Island fire officials
