PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A new bio-recycling center is open in Charlotte County and it's generating thousands of tons of high grade compost.
Synagro Technologies opened the plant off Zemel Road as part of a 20-year partnership with the county. The facility mixes materials from wastewater treatment plants with yard waste.
It cures underneath two massive 'wind-rows' on sight and after a 45-day process, turns into compost.
"People don't like permitting landfills anymore. So the more we can recycle, the more air space they have and we can do good stuff with it and we don't have to have manmade fertilizer," says Roger Lescrynski, General Manager of the facility.
The plant will make about 50-thousands tons of compost every year. It will be sold to farmers, groves, homeowners and landscapers.
