LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Boston Red Sox are supporting Southwest Florida kids battling cancer. Today, the Children's Hospital Celebrity Classic honored 9-year-old Jarrid Dodge.

Jarrid anxiously waited to meet some of his favorite players from one of his favorite sports teams: the Boston Red Sox.

"I'm mostly excited to get all of my signatures on my jersey that I got yesterday for being MVP," said Jarrid.

The meet and greet was more than he ever imagined. He got an autograph from Jon Lester, one of his idols. Lester is part of the Children's Hospital Celebrity Classic, golfing to support kids just like Jarrid.

"You just put yourself in their shoes, just wanting one autograph, and coming here to hang out with us. I'm sure it's a big thrill for them," said Lester.

Jarrid was just seven years old when he learned he had leukemia.

It was a diagnosis that weighed heavy on his family. Jarrid's spent a lot of time undergoing treatment at the Golisano Children's Hospital.

With each swing today, the teams of four are raising money to pay for the construction of the hospital's new expansion.
