MIAMI (AP) - A South Florida doctor known to patients as the "Rock Doc" because of his spiky hairstyle and punk fashion has pleaded guilty to $2.5 million in Medicare fraud, as well as a drug crime.
Miami Beach Dr. Christopher Gregory Wayne entered the guilty pleas Tuesday in Miami federal court. He signed a statement saying he billed Medicare for various services that were unneeded or never provided. Wayne also illegally sold painkillers such as oxycodone to undercover police officers.
Federal guidelines call for between three and five years in prison for the 53-year-old Wayne when he is sentenced in May. Wayne also must forfeit his Miami Beach home, more than $1.6 million in cash and a luxury car.
Under a plea agreement 14 other fraud charges were dropped.
