NAPLES, Fla. - Naples Botanical Garden will host LEGO® Sculptures in the Garden through May 11, 2014.
The LEGO® Sculptures in the Garden traveling exhibit displays enchanting nature-inspired LEGO® sculptures throughout the Garden. Each sculpture is designed and created by Sean Kenney, the world’s first LEGO® certified professional, and these one of a kind creations are built with more than 500,000 LEGO® bricks.
The show consists of twenty-seven sculptures built with LEGO® bricks that create fourteen individual displays and can be seen throughout the Garden. From an American bumblebee, a garden worker and a hummingbird to a fox and rabbit, bison and lily pads, the sculptures range in size from six inches to almost eight feet. The exhibit highlights and promotes the importance of ecosystems and how all living things are connected.
“Just as in nature and our gardens here, the LEGO® bricks connect to create something fun, colorful and intricate. Each brick relies on the next to build a connected system, relying on each other,” says Brian Holley, Executive Director of Naples Botanical Garden. “Visitors of all ages will delight in seeing the sculptures up close, and participating in our exciting programs based on LEGO® bricks.”
Admission to LEGO® Sculptures in the Garden is included with regular Garden admission, $12.95 for adults, $7.95 for kids ages 4-14 and free for kids 3 and under and Naples Botanical Garden members.
Sean Kenney spent so much time playing with LEGO® toys as a child that he decided he might as well make a career of it. For nearly a decade, Sean has been turning ordinary LEGO® bricks into spectacular works of art.
Based in New York City, Sean was the first of now only 13 LEGO® Certified Professionals worldwide. His work has been featured in major media from The New York Times to BBC News. A self-described "professional kid," Sean uses LEGO® bricks to create things that connect to the larger world. He hopes that after seeing his sculptures, children will become inspired to create great things themselves.
Sean also is the author of a series of best-selling picture book building guides for children, including "Cool Cars and Trucks," "Cool City" and "Cool Robots."
