FORT MYERS, Fla. - Edison State College hasn't had an intercollegiate athletics program since 1997. The school hopes to change that by Fall 2015.

Monday morning, Edison formally introduced its new athletics director Carl McAloose.

McAloose, who has 30 years of sports experience, served as FGCU's athletic director and returns to Fort Myers most recently from his position at Clayton State in Atlanta.

Among the first sports he hopes to revive are baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball. In the coming months, McAloose will start hiring coaches.

Edison will also be bringing back its old team name, the Buccaneers.

McAloose says in the coming weeks, the school will discuss new construction of sports facilities on campus, which would likely still be in progress when the first games start next year. In the meantime, he says, Edison would probably have to rely on outside help and venues for practices and games.
