FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- A historic ship has docked right here in Southwest Florida. The replica of the Nao Victoria has embarked on it's first voyage across the United States, making it's very first stop on Fort Myers Beach. The ship is generating money and also bringing in a wealth of education to the area.

"It's amazing. If you have ever pictured a pirate ship in your mind, that's exactly what it looks like," said the general manager of Nervous Nellies, Steve DeAngelis.

A replica of the Nao Victoria was ten years in the making, and is now docked at Fort Myers Beach.

"The Nao is a Spanish owned vessel commemorating Magallan's circa navigation of the globe," said DeAngelis.

The original ship sailed around the world nearly 500 years ago, and today, can be seen outside Nervous Nellies, the first stop on it's U.S. tour.

"It was just a natural fit, the dockage, the availability for the visual aspect on tourism, it was just a natural place for it to stop," said DeAngelis.

The ship is bringing in a lot of history and educating spectators as they come view the floating museum.

"We want to be the place that puts FMB on the map as an educational stop," said DeAngelis.

It also generates big bucks for area businesses.

"You see a lot of big boat, yachts and to see something that has been well preserved and people have a lot of interest in it, I don't think this is something they should ever get rid of," said FMB visitor Tim Burge.

We're told a lot of intricate detail went into making this replica as exact as possible. The ship is taking you back in time, creating the journey of Magellan and his Spanish crew. In 1519, the ship was part of an expedition to find the Spice Islands.

"The ropes, the sails, it's just something to see, when that thing sets sail, it's just really something to see."

The ship will be docked outside Nervous Nellies until March 17th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
