COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Tamise St. Marc tells WINK News, she feared the worst when she heard that two year old inside a dark, stuffy storage unit.

"I heard the boys voice in there and I heard the mother screaming, like somebody was in pain."

St. Marc said she's seen the boy every day for the last month with his mother and a person she thinks is the child's dad.

"The boy would talk to me every morning, 'Good morning! Hi, how are you?' The father always said, 'Hi' too."

But she knew something was wrong when she didn't see them on Wednesday. She tried knocking on their unit but no one answered. That's when St. Marc asked the property manager for help.

"I've got a little child stuck inside a storage. He appears to be by himself."

Deputies said inside they found 44 year old Wendi Horne and her son.

"The baby was in there 24 hours, no air, no air at all," said St. Marc.

According to an arrest report, Horne was passed out in the back of the unit, behind several dressers and mattresses assembled like a living area. Deputies said Horrne was drunk. They found two large empty vodka bottles. But there was no water, only half a stalf of crackers for food. Horne is now under arrest for child neglect.

"You want water? You want water? Yes, he wants water."

St. Marc said her actions saved the boy's life.

"I would not go home because I'm a grandmother, I have 6 grandchildren. I would not leave my unit until the baby gets help."

The Department of Children and Families said the child is in their custody and they're trying to find a family who will take him in. The agency also tells us Horne has a history with DCF, but they wouldn't go into further detail.
