FORT MYERS, Fla --- In an unofficial camp site off Linear Park Trail in Fort Myers, you'll find bedrooms, kitchens, everything you'd need to survive a camping trip.

But what you'll also find, are some registered sex offenders, who call the place home, for only a few more days.

"We gave everybody notice that they would have to vacate by tuesday of next week and the property owner no longer wants them on the property," said Captain Jim Mulligan.

Police tell us at least six are currently living on the private property, not all sex offenders.
Partly brought to their attention by neighboring communities, like the Sienna at Vista Lakes Apartments.

"They just saw different people walking through the parking lot and didn't know who or what the circumstances were surrounding it, that did raise our attention," said Mulligan.

"Not nice. There are children living here in our complex, our apartment complex, so it's not a good thing to know obviously," said Philip-Michael Devos, who lives in Sienna.

Because the men are outside the one thousand feet restrictions, they're not breaking any sex offender laws, just trespassing.

Police call the situation unfortunate, so they brought along the homeless outreach to help.

"We are trying to find ways to move their belongings, so they don't lose everything they got. number two, searching for places for them to stay," said Fred Schilffarth, with Homeless Outreach at City Gate Ministries.

You can contact City Gate at (239) 334-7747 if you have anywhere these men are able to go.
