FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say one person has died after more than a dozen migrants reportedly came ashore in Fort Lauderdale.
Police were notified after a resident reported that a group of people had arrived on the beach Thursday morning.
Detective DeAnna Greenlaw says three people needed rescuing from the water.
One of those people died at a hospital. Greenlaw says that person was found in poor health, "more than likely due to the length of time spent in the water without a personal flotation device." The person's name was not released.
Police say the migrants were from Haiti.
It wasn't immediately clear how many migrants were taken into federal custody.
