ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all contractors and workers to secure their construction equipment and materials as much as possible at job sites.
Between June 2013 and January 2014, the Sheriff’s Office has taken 14 reports of thefts or burglaries at construction sites in the Englewood area. Many of these reports have come from the general area of South Gulf Cove, while a couple are from the Rotonda area.
The items that have been reported stolen in these cases are varied. There are no specific items being reported taken, but similar items have been reported taken more than once. Stolen items include copper wire, doors, bags of cement, and building studs.
But it is not just building materials being taken. Construction equipment, such as scaffolding, chain saws and a drill, have also been reported stolen.
In most cases, the items taken had been left unsecured at building sites.
Detectives assigned to these cases would like to remind everyone working at or in charge of a construction site to make sure their equipment and materials are securely locked up before leaving the site for the day.
Anyone with information concerning any of the construction site thefts in the Englewood area is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Office at either (941) 639-2101 or (941) 474-3233 (ask for District 1 detectives), or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
