NAPLES, Fla.- A bear broke into a home, not once but twice and left with a full belly after raiding a refrigerator.
"The bear roughly stood about 6'2, 6'3, had to weigh 400 or a little more and when he stood up, it was definietly breath taking," said Ron Hysell.
It was an encouter Ron Hysell never imagined. He came home to find a bear who thought his house was "just right."
"I was scared he was going to come after me."
The bear was rummaging through Ron's refrigerator.
"He got into a pound of chocolate candy and ate everything but about two or three pieces."
And ate the groceries Ron and his wife just bought from the market.
"He got into cheese that were individually wrapped, he ate 72 pieces of cheese, and then got into the butter."
Ron says the bear was startled after hearing the couple come home and made his escape, leaving a path of destruction.
"He ran straight out through this screen and I turned around and went right out back towards the highway."
But the food the bear had eaten just wasn't enough, it came back for a seconds to fill its belly.
"He ate the bread, another pound of cheese and yogurt and ate about 18-19 packages of that."
And to top it off the two meals, that bear needed to cleanse his palette.
"He picked up a bottle of beer out of the side entrance of the door and it was laying on the floor not broke."
Ron said he didn't know bears enjoyed beer so he asked an officer with Florida Fish and Wildlife.
"I asked him if a bear would drink bear and he said definietly! There is nothing funnier than a bear who has a little bit of alcohol in him."
FWC says it is likely the bear could come back. An officer will also be back out to assess the situation. FWC says a bear can smell up to five miles away.
