     Fort Myers, FL-  The day of events started with a march through Downtown Fort Myers. Hundreds of people from community organziations walked along Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard . Paticipants say it is important to take this day each year to remember the sacrifice the late Civil Rights leader made for future generations. The celebration continues at Centennial Park until 5pm.

     Collier county held its 17th annual event to remember MLK in downtown Naples. A parade started at the corner of Broad Ave. South and 3rd Street South. It ended Cambier Park where festivities included entertainment, children's activities and food. 

     In Charlotte county, there was a parade in downtown Punta Gorda to honor Doctor King's legacy. The Charlotte county high school marching band led the route from the Charlotte harbor event center through downtown. 

    Dr. King was born Jan. 15, 1929 and the federal holiday is the third Monday in January.
