The following shelters will be opening tonight ahead of freezing temperatures:

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

Additional cots are being placed at the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition, located at 1476 Kenesaw Street in Port Charlotte.

In the Englewood area, the cold weather shelter of St. David's Episcopal Church, 401 S. Broadway, Englewood will be open tonight at 6:00 p.m. and is located in the St.  David's Jubilee Center. Dinner and breakfast are provided. The shelter is located just over the county line into Sarasota County.

COLLIER COUNTY

St. Matthew’s House has opened its doors for anyone in need of warmth and food as temperatures are expected to drop into the weekend. St. Matthew’s House has initiated its inclement weather policy through Saturday. The policy allows the non-profit to open up room in its shelters throughout Collier County for an additional 40-60 people when temperatures drop below 50. On any given night the Naples shelter provides housing for an average of 130 individuals.

In an effort to help successfully battle Mother Nature, St. Matthew’s House remains in need of essential items. Supporters looking to donate are urged to give cash for supplies, blankets or sleeping bags. 

DESOTO COUNTY

A cold weather shelter is scheduled to open at 6:00 p.m. tonight in anticipation of tonight’s freezing temperatures. There will be limited food and the shelter will not accept pets.

American Red Cross, Florida’s Southern Gulf Region are opening shelters in LaBelle and Clewiston beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday night until 7:00 a.m. Friday morning. Glades, Hendry and Inland Collier County are under a freeze watch for Thursday night through Friday morning. Temperatures could drop to around 30 degrees for 3-4 hours by Friday morning.

Those seeking shelter are encouraged to bring the following items if possible: appropriate bedding, blankets, and pillows; prescription medications; personal hygiene items and any other items for infants or the elderly.
