FORT MYERS, Fla.- Rodney Ross is accused of stealing a car from Lehigh Acres and leading police on a short chase, then crashing in Fort Myers!

Ross faces several charges, including hit and run.

WINK News cameras caught the crash on Lafayette Street.

Officers say during the chase, Ross lost control of the 1994 Lincoln Towncar, hit a mailbox, then a light pole and finally a tree. The light pole exploded, which caused a power outage in the neighborhood.

Officers say Ross crawled out of the passenger window and ran. They eventually caught up with the 19-year-old and took him to jail.

"It was pretty scary at first because I thought like a war was happening," said Javares Pointer who saw thew crash.

Power was knocked out for about 55 people near the crash site for nearly 5 hours.

"It was like a big explosion because it took everybody's power on this side," said Pointer.

Ross was arrested and now faces multiple charges including grand theft. Police say Ross was also driving with a suspended license.
