CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The Cape Coral Fire Department is heating up German reality television. Right now, international crews are taping an episode featuring a German Cape Coral firefighter's life at work and at home.

Speaking in fluent German, Cape Coral firefighter Juergen Schmidt is the star of a reality TV show.
The footage a German team tapes will be seen across the country.

"It's a show which is aired daily. We are nationally televised, and it's about cops, customs, firefighters on the duty. We watch them while they're really in action, hot on the traffic," explained German filmmaker Thomas Luecke.

This not the first time they've been here. Two years ago the crew first featured Schmidt. The episode was one of the highest rated in the show's history.

"We aired the show. It was repeated over and over and over!" said Luecke. "We had a kind of hit parade of the best foreign actions, the best foreign shows all over the road, from Thailand, the United States, France, everywhere. And Juergen made it to number 2."

It's why this team is back for more.

As for Schmidt, he doesn't mind the spotlight, and the chance to promote the city. "I'm an employee of the city. This is one way of me giving back to the city. Recognition. All over the world, mainly Europe, coming and buying houses here. And spending a lot of money in the Cape," Schmidt said.

The episode featuring Schmidt should air the end of march in Germany.

Already, there is a lot of anticipation and recognition. The fire department is getting about 100 emails every week from Germany.
