CAPE CORAL, Fla. - It was a chance to get to know the men and women in uniform who keep us safe everyday.

Tuesday morning, the Cape Coral Police Department hosted "Coffee with a Cop" at the McDonalds on Del Prado Boulevard.

This is the first time the police department has done something like this. It's part of its community outreach program, to get to know the residents, and listen to their comments and concerns.

"It shows that they care, and it's really nice. And it's nice to be able to meet some of the different officers," said Cape Coral resident John Hupman.

"We're hoping to interact with the people who pay taxes, and pay for a police service, but don't necessarily take advantage of it. wWe want them to have the opportunity to get to know who the police officers are," explained Sgt. Joseph Zalenski.

The police department would like to host another "Coffee with a Cop" session in the future.
