Update:  The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of the person killed in this crash. FHP says 63 Year old Joseph Albert Adams is the Bicyclist that was killed.  His family has been notified.


DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating a crash that left a bicyclist dead in Arcadia.

FHP says the bicyclist was trying to cross SR 70 near the Wal-Mart around 7:30 p.m. when that person crossed into the path of an oncoming car. The car could not avoid the bike and hit the person, knocking them off the bike and over the hood of the car.

Troopers say a second car then hit that bicyclist in the roadway. That driver, identified as 50-year-old Edna Johnson of Fort Myers, left the scene. Troopers later found her walking along the road and arrested her for DUI.

The crash investigation continues.
