DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- A cold weather shelter is scheduled to open in Desoto County at 7:00 p.m. tonight in anticipation of tonight’s freezing temperatures.

The Office of Emergency Management for Charlotte County will be opening four cold weather shelters. The shelters listed below will be open both Monday and Tuesday nights, (January 6th & 7th), at 6:00 pm. The below agencies/shelters are partnered with the American Red Cross which is providing cots, blankets and pillows.


Salvation Army, located at the 2120 Loveland Blvd, Port Charlotte (with a capacity to hold 50 people)

St David’s Episcopal Church, 401 South Broadway, Englewood, FL 34223

Charlotte County Homeless Coalition, located at 1476 Kenesaw St, Port Charlotte, FL 33948 (30 spots are available)

New Hope Community Church, located at 5600 S Biscayne Drive, North Port, FL 34287

The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties will be opening it's doors for the Cold Weather Night Shelter program, which goes into effect when the temperature falls below 40 degrees.

Shelter information: Men can go to 2476 Edison Avenue, while women and children can go to 2400 Edison Avenue

A meal will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each evening as part of the Meals With Compassion program.

The Salvation Army will be accepting monetary donations, as well as warm blankets, jackets and food.

The Emergency Overnight shelter will open after the evening meal, after 7:00 pm.


Hendry County will be opening Cold Weather Emergency Shelters tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the John Boy Auditorium (Beardsley Room), located at 1200 South W.C. Owens Ave. in Clewiston; and the United Way House, located at 133 N. Bridge Street in LaBelle. The shelters will be open until 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. The shelters are being staffed by the American Red Cross in cooperation with Hendry County Emergency Management.


In Collier County, the Saint Matthew's House will have mattresses, blankets and food for those who come to the shelter, located at 2001 Airport Pulling Rd S, Naples, FL 34112. They have room for 60 people, and ask that you bring an I.D.
