TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - You know you're living in a weird state when there's a Festivus pole made out of beer cans displayed in the Capitol, a man offers to trade a live alligator for a 12-pack of beer and a homeowners association has to create a no-swimming-as-a-mermaid rule.
Those were just a few of the many odd news stories Florida had in 2013.
Among others: an officer got in trouble for giving Miami Heat star LeBron James a police escort to a Justin Timberlake/Jay Z concert; at least six people were hit by bullets falling from the sky from celebratory gunfire; four separate men were charged with leaving children in cars while they entered strip bars; and a mall was evacuated when a man sprinkled his fiancée's ashes outside a store.
