MARCO ISLAND, Fla.- A woman who lost her mother in a deadly Marco Island crash in November spoke exclusively with WINK News.

Jeanne Lesniak received the phone call from her fiance, who was inside the vehicle. She described those moments as absolutely terrifying. Her mother, 91-year-old Thersea Lesniak, and her passenger, Michael Jones, were struck by a vehicle driven by Peter Ferreira.

Police said Ferreira sped through a stop sign at the intersection of Tahiti Road and Bayport Avenue. That's when his car collided with the one Lesniak was driving.

Lesniak's daughter just spent her first holiday without her mom.

"The loss of my mother at Christmastime made it a very sad Christmas, instead of a happy one, like it should have been with her," said Jeanne Lesniak.

Ferreira is facing a vehicular homicide charge. The State dropped the charge of reckless driving.
