SANIBEL, Fla.- The City of Sanibel has been advised by the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) that customers on Captiva experienced an unexpected power outage yesterday due to an osprey building a nest near electric infrastructure.
The bird dropped large branches on power equipment causing the power interruption.
A little more than 2,000 customers were out of power for just under two hours while crews made repairs to electric facilities. LCEC apologized for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for their customers' patience.
LCEC will evaluate the location to determine if additional maintenance or repair is required.
