COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - The Collier County Sheriff's Office has fired and arrested one of their own.

Cpl. James Brooks is charged with dealing in stolen property, conspiracy to commit grand theft and trafficking an opiate or derivative.

According to a report, a Naples Jail Center inmate told a deputy recently Brooks asked him to steal a high-end laptop after he was released from jail. Brooks allegedly then wanted the inmate to sell it to him for half price.

What Brooks didn't know, was that inmate agreed to work with detectives as a confidential informant.

After the informant was let out of jail, he continued to work with detectives. Officials tracked the phone calls between the two. According to the report, Brooks arranged a meeting with the informant on Monday to exchange the laptop for the cash. As soon as the transaction was complete Brooks was arrested.

Brooks is an 8-year veteran with the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
