CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened at 3900 SE 4th Ave. this afternoon.

According to the Cape Coral Police, no officers were injured.

Detectives were taking a suspect into custody at 3905 SE 4th Ave. in reference to a theft investigation. While at that location, they witnessed an unrelated disturbance at a nearby house, in which a subject, later identified as 34-year-old David Roy Westerman, was dragging another subject down the street with a pickup truck.

Detectives identified themselves and attempted to intervene, but Westerman allegedly lunged at one of them. A deputy then fired at Westerman, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. Charges are pending.

The detectives involved in the incident have been placed on administrative duty, pending the findings of the Professional Standards Bureau.

Upon release from Lee Memorial, Westerman will be charged with Aggravated Battery on the victim he dragged with the vehicle and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer for driving at a Detective.
