LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Sheriff Mike Scott says suspect, David Palmer was running a major drug operation out of his Fort Myers home. Palmer was a coach for the Dunbar Rattlers, a youth football team. He helped coach 7 and 8 year old children.
Sheriff Scott says Palmer was caught waiting for a package to be delivered to a drop house in Lehigh Acres. The package, according to investigators, was filled with drugs. It was being sent from an address in Washington state.
A search of Palmer's apartment allegedly turned up a host of drugs, including MDMA, cocaine, marijuana and more than 25 thousand dollars in cash.
One of the founders of the Dunbar Rattlers, Corris McIntosh, told WINK News his organization is shocked because Palmer passed not one, but two background checks he in fact did a good job working with the children. McIntosh says he will personally make the call to Palmer to let him know he is no longer welcome as a coach for the team.
Palmer is out of jail on bond.
