CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Last minute holiday shoppers in Charlotte County have a little extra security this year.  It's thanks to two new sets of wheels from the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff recently bought two segways as part of his Community Policing effort in the county.  The segways are made with larger tires so they can maneuver easily on pavement and around the beach.

They'll be seen at high traffic places like the mall and special events.

"We're standing up like eight inches taller than normal so we can see around really easily they're very easy to maneuver in and out of the vehicles in the parking lot area," says Detective Joseph Fiorini.

The segways didn't cost taxpayers a dime.  The Sheriff used money extra in the Community Policing budget to purchase them.
