CAOE CORAL, Fla - The Cape Coral Police Department has identified the victim from Saturday night's shooting as 49-year-old Sally A. Young.
Young was pronounced dead on scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim's husband, 49-year-old Michael G. Young, was transported from the scene with a critical injury from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He remains at Lee Memorial Hospital.
The couple's child, a 9-year-old boy, was unharmed and is in the care of family members.
"They just seemed like a normal family. Son was outside playing and dad would go boating on the weekends. Nothing seemed strange," said Jennifer Lambert, a neighbor.
A husband allegedly murdered his wife, after the two got into an argument.
"Anytime you have a domestic situation usually it is something that starts with warning signs and escalates over time," said Sergeant Dana Coston of Cape Coral Police Department.
But neighbors say Michael Young, an ex Marine, didn't seem capable of killing.
"Never seen cops over there. Never heard yelling. Never saw them arguing. That's why it comes to a shock," said Lambert.
Police say, with his own gun, Young shot his wife Sally inside their home.
Sally Young ran out to get help, but died on the front lawn from several gunshots.
"You hear about these things happening but you don't think it's going to happen in your neighborhood and when it does it hits your heart," said Robert Soler, who has now started a toy drive for the couple's young son.
The 9 year old is staying with family members.
"Whether we knew him or not, we are affected by it. We are hoping we can make his christmas a little better. We love him unconditionally," said Soler.
The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges against Michael Young are pending.
