CAPE CORAL, Fla ----  There were tears, and prayers.

"You just have to love thy neighbor and that's all you could do," said Tina Watkins, a neighbor of Sally Young.

A small neighborhood showing their support for a nine year old boy they hardly knew, and the mother he lost.

"We are close, come together when a family is in need. And right now, the family is in need of love and support," said Watkins.

Police say the boy's father, Michael Scott, allegedly shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself.

"Our hearts are broken over the tragedy. there is not just one victim, there is three," said Watkins.

WINK News is learning, the boy is staying with family.

But these neighbors want him to know he will always be their family.

"I know it's not going to be the same for him for christmas or any day because that was his mother and father but we want to let him know he is loved in this community," said Watkins.

To get an idea of just what this meant to the area, WINK News watched as neighbors who had never met each other before, introduced themselves and embraced.

The neighborhood is also collecting toys for the boy.
They can be dropped off at Mr. Cool air conditioning in Cape Coral.
As for the boy's father, he's at Lee Memorial Hospital where he's expected to survive.
But once he's out of the hospital, he's expected to be charged.
