FORT MYERS, FL.--It's your money and WINK News is investigating the impact of a major fraud bust on your health care costs.
Harold Pompey, a Fort Myers chiropractor is out of jail and accused of scamming insurance companies.
Pompey was busted for filing fake claims to collect personal insurance protection money.
No one came to the door at Pompey's home.
He got out of the Lee County Jail Friday and now faces numerous charges of insurance fraud.
Investigators say Pompey and Gate Parkway Diagnostics Center worked together and illegally collected money.
From October of 2011 to December of 2012 the two filed for more than 500 patients.
Local chiropractor, Dr. Todd Johnson, says while new laws are working to crack down on accused crooks like Pompey.
For the legit doctors it makes it extremely difficult to deal with insurance companies and it could cost him business.
"It makes more steps for us to do just to get paid the same amount we used to get paid before," said Dr. Johnson.
From 2006 to now PIP fraud tips have risen substantially and the payout of these claims have jumped 30% since 2004, leaving you paying more each year.
"It makes the rest of us who are billing and doing good work kind of makes us guilty by association," said Dr. Johnson.
