PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County detectives are attempting to identify a woman who took a wallet left behind at a local Walmart and used the debit card inside to get money from the victim's bank.

On Sunday, December 1, a Punta Gorda woman reported that she had left her grey clutch-style wallet at the cash register where she checked out at the Walmart, located at 5001 Taylor Road. She said when she noticed it was gone, she went back to the store, but nobody had turned in her wallet.

Walmart loss prevention personnel checked the video and saw that the woman who had been in line behind the victim had picked up her wallet, put it in her own purse and left the store without reporting it.

On Wednesday December 4, the victim again called the Sheriff’s Office to report that her debit card that had been in her wallet had been used at 7-11. She told deputies she did not know how the debit card was used because she did not have her debit card code in her wallet.

Economic Crimes detectives obtained a copy of the Walmart video that shows the victim leaving her wallet on the counter at the check-out area. After the woman behind the victim begins to check out, she picks up the wallet and puts it in her own purse.

The suspect is described as a white female who was wearing what appears to be a purplish and white top, black capris and sandals. She had either light brown or dark blonde short hair and appears to have a thin build. She was with a young male juvenile.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of this woman is asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 629-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
