MIAMI (AP) - Building experts are expected to attend a meeting at Florida International University in Miami on how to build bridges faster and better.
The meeting of the steering committee for FIU's new Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center will be held Monday at The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum on campus.
A school press release says it was awarded a $1.4 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation to work on deteriorating bridges across the country.
Members of the steering committee include academic experts and representatives of the departments of transportation of several states, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the Federal Highway Administration, as well as representatives of non-profit organizations for steel, concrete and advanced materials.
