BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- An iconic sight along U.S 41 could soon see a new crew come onboard. The "Troy- Franco" is headed to the auction tomorrow morning in hopes someone can add new life into a Bonita Springs staple.

But who will become the next captain of this ship? And what will it become in the future? As WINK News is learning, a doctors office, a dinner theater and even a personal residence has been discussed for the ships next voyage.

Interested buyers can now help preserve the "Troy-Franco," a 16th-century Spanish Galleon.

"It's an iconic location marker, it's incredible that in this two county area, there is no one that doesn't know the location of this ship," said realtor for Paradise Realty, Thaddeus Deitriech.

It's been an iconic land mark for 20 years, but for the last 7, it's been vacant used as a warehouse.

"The hope would be to bring a successful sale for the seller, and to someone who is going to acquisition it and utilize it for years to come," said Deitriech.

For now, it's quest is unknown, but there have been inquiries for a possiblee preschool and a dinner theater, someone even wanted to put it in the water.

"I had to let him down lightly that it's a concrete building and it wouldn't float very well."

According to realtor, Thaddus Dietrich, the ship and the land are worth about $1.4 million. He's hoping to sell the replica ship for about $2.8.

Ffrom past contractors, to rebuild this ship could cost $1.5 million to open to a competitive restaurant would be $700,000."

The ship needs work after being ravaged by Hurricane Charley.

"It was roof damage that has since been fixed, but it still needs a lot of renovations from top to bottom to open to a quality restaurant."

The auction will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Hampton Inn in Estero. You can bid in person, online or on the phone.
