NAPLES, Fla.- A Naples man was arrested yesterday after an ongoing investigation revealed he was allegedly running a chop shop out of Big Red's Towing, located at 1511 16th Ave SW.
Ivan Diaz is now facing two charges of grand theft auto and one count of operating a chop shop.
The investigation began on November 22, when Collier County Sheriff's deputies located a 2001 Ford F250 reported stolen out of Miami-Dade Police Department in July of this year. The federal vin sticker had been removed, and a fake public vin sticker had been attached with adhesive. That vehicle was valued at $35,000.
Deputies also located a white 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 that had been reported as stolen in Miami on November 1. It was valued at $50,000.
A 53-foot semi-trailer that had been converted into a shop full of tools, air compressors, painting supplies and other supplies was also found on the premises. Enclosed trailers full of transmissions, engines, dashboards, and other parts were discovered at the back of the property.
The stolen vehicles were recovered.
