HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) - Police have arrested a Florida man for allegedly stabbing his estranged wife to death in front of his two children.

Authorities say 41-year-old Alfonso Lopez de Queralta stabbed Yulianela Silva Torres in her home just before 6 a.m. Monday. Police say he also stabbed himself during the incident and was taken to the hospital.

Television station NBC 6 South Florida (http://bit.ly/18Lczom) reports that the suspect now faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary with assault or battery.

The couple had been separated. Torres had a permanent domestic violence injunction against her husband.

Neighbor Dainerys Rodriguez told NBC 6 she heard the children screaming, and quote, "all of a sudden there was like a silence." The children are now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
