LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The grandmother of crash victim Kyla Nesmith says her grand-daughter didn't have to die but she's glad the man responsible is behind bars. Virginia Nesmith learned her grand-daughter's boyfriend, 27 year old Shannon Mitchell was taken into custody after being released from the hospital where he was being treated for injuries he sustained in the November 8th crash. According to FHP, Mitchell was pulled over because the tint on his windows was too dark. Before the trooper could approach the car, Mitchell took off at a high speed. Troopers say he lost control and crashed his Chevy Cavalier. Kyla Nesmith was killed in the accident and Mitchell was seriously injured. He is being charged with drug possession, negligent homicide and other traffic offenses.
