MIAMI (AP) - A disabled dog and his owner are celebrating Thanksgiving together thanks to a tip from Cuba.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/IkUO51) reports that the 7-year-old male Schnauzer named Puppy was found wandering the streets of Northwest Miami-Dade Tuesday. The dog wears diapers and uses a custom-made wheelchair. A hernia operation left his hind legs paralyzed three years ago.

The county shelter made public pleas on local media but Puppy's owner, Mireya Fernandez, was on vacation. Her granddaughter in Havana, however, was watching a Univision feed and recognized the diaper-clad pooch, who shelter workers had taken to calling "Huggies." She then called Fernandez, who was reunited with Puppy Wednesday.

Despite his condition, the dog had escaped through a backyard fence. Fernandez made sure Puppy now wears a microchip.
