RIVERVIEW, Fla. (AP) - Two people are hospitalized with minor injuries after an acid tank exploded at a Tampa Bay-area phosphate plant.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the explosion occurred during routine maintenance of the empty tank at the Riverview plant.

A lid on the tank flew about 100 feet in the air before crashing to the ground. Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jessica Damico tells the Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/17F1MLK) that one worker who had been standing on the structure was struck in the chest by shrapnel. Another worker on the ground also was injured.

Authorities say two employees were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It's not clear what caused the explosion.
