CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fl. - Business owners in Charlotte County are hoping the holiday season will encourage people to shop locally.

Starting next week, county leaders and merchants are kicking off 'Shop Charlotte Month.'  The campaign runs from the 29th through December 24th.

They say it's a great opportunity for shoppers to support the local economy by spending money in stores instead of buying online at big box stores.

"It's so important to shop locally because the money that they spend in Charlotte County stays in Charlotte County and then the trickle down effect, it's just really good for the community," says Julie Mathis with the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber is working with our partners at the Charlotte Sun to run ads letting people know about the campaign.  County commissioners will recognize 'Shop Charlotte Month' with a proclamation at Tuesday's commission meeting.
