DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Officials in Volusia County have exhumed a teenager's body in hopes of solving a murder case.

Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught says the boy was likely in his early teens when he was stabbed to death. His body was found in May 1972 in a pond.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1bJKNJD ) reports investigators working the cold case asked a judge for permission to exhume the body. DNA will be extracted from the skeleton and sent to the University of North Texas for analysis.

The C.A. Pound laboratory will do a CT scan of the skull, which will be forwarded to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's forensic unit. A facial reconstruction will be done to help identify the boy.

Haught says the process could take several months.
