LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Fort Myers mother is facing DUI charges after she crashed her Jeep with her kids in the car over the weekend. Christina Cavanaugh is being held on bond for several counts of DUI.
Cavanaugh made her first appearance in Lee County court Monday morning. A judge ordered she wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet while her case is ongoing. The 45-year-old mother of two was told she can not possess or consume alcohol and is subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.
She's facing four counts of DUI and property damage, DUI with blood alcohol content above .15 or higher, and refusal to submit a DUI test.
This, after she crashed her Jeep sunday afternoon on US-41 near Elwood Road, just north of Estero Parkway, with her kids in the car.
Lee County sheriff's deputies say the mother of two was changing lanes when she lost control. They allegedly found empty wine bottles in the front seat of Cavanaugh's jeep, and said she smelled of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The state attorney's office mentioned in court that the Department of Children and Families has been notified of Cavanaugh's arrest. She's been flagged as a "high risk" inmate in the Lee County jail.
