CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Multiple agencies responded to a plane crash near Charlotte Harbor, around 11:00 a.m. today.

According to Charlotte County Fire and EMS, an ultralight plane went down near Ponce De Leon Park. The pilot, later identified as 71-year-old William Krasnow, was rescued from the water, but refused treatment.

The pilot reported engine trouble to the Punta Gorda tower, but they lost communication with him. A search then began. He was found about a mile into Charlotte Harbor.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the Boca Grande Fire Department also responded to the scene.
