JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville felon was fatally shot less than three hours after he was released from jail.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says 36-year-old Royal Jerome Jackson was released from jail at 1:20 a.m. on Thursday. He died around 4 a.m. following a shooting outside the Woodlands Apartments.
Police released few details, but said another man also was shot and drove himself to the hospital.
There was no word on any arrests in the case.
The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1hqJh43 ) reports Jackson was released on bail following his Oct. 4 arrest by Jacksonville Beach police on several drug and possession charges. The newspaper reports his criminal history included a year-and-a-half sentence for trafficking stolen property in 2001 and other drug and grand theft charges.
