LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash at US 41 and Sanibel Blvd.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says southbound 41 will be closed for an extended period.
According to FHP, a trooper tried to pull over a vehicle, but as the officer approached the vehicle, it fled. The vehicle reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, crossed a median and hit a pickup truck head-on.
The passenger of the vehicle, a woman, died on the scene. The driver was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
FHP will release identities when next-of-kin have been notified.
